Double your impact through the 29th Peter Mac Cup
Collingwood vs Carlton
ROUND 8, MCG | FRIDAY May 3 2024
Peter Mac Cup is this week!
Now in its 31st year, the Peter Mac Cup is the longest running charity match in VFL/AFL history, with traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton coming together to support one important cause – cancer research at Peter Mac.
As we head towards the Peter Mac Cup this Friday, players from Carlton Football Club and Collingwood Football Club visited Peter Mac yesterday, chatting with patients and staff across the centre.
Carlton player and Peter Mac Cancer Foundation board member Sam Docherty shared his warm memories at Peter Mac while undergoing treatment here.
“I have a lot of fond memories here, and I think that’s testament to all the people that were here when I was getting treated,” Docherty said.
“Being able to sit behind the scenes a bit more now and understand the importance of the Foundation and the money that comes in, where it goes and the impact it has on people here but also people in the future — I love coming back here. It is a beautiful place.
“Carlton and Collingwood, two massive rivals. To have two massive fanbases, two passionate fanbases that don’t really like each other represented and come together for a game of footy and unite behind something, that says a hell of a lot.”
Collingwood player Bobby Hill, who was diagnosed with testicular cancer in May 2022, says Friday night’s game with rivals Carlton will be an “unbelievable” affair, for reasons even outside the obvious.
"It'll be a great cause and great game this week, especially with two big clubs," Hill said, via AAP.
"It'll be fun and unbelievable to be a part of."
We would like to extend our massive thanks to both clubs for taking the time to come down and put smiles on so many faces today.
