The report is based on the snapshot from Scopus - an abstract and indexing database produced by Elsevier Co - updated to the end of 2022.

The top two per cent includes the top 100,000 most cited scientists as determined by a composite citation score, or “c-score”, focusing on the impact of citations rather than productivity (number of publications). It also incorporates information on co-authorship and author positions.

Peter Mac Executive Director Cancer Research, Professor Ricky Johnstone, said the large number of Peter Mac researchers on the list illustrates our top-tier research status.

“It is a remarkable achievement to have over fifty researchers from Peter Mac on this list, which positions them in the highest impact rank in their research community,” he said.

“This outstanding result demonstrates Peter Mac’s commitment to research excellence and the global impact of our research.

“Congratulations to all our researchers for their recognition. Their dedication and commitment to research excellence not only further enhances our reputation as a world-leading cancer research centre, but who continue to make a huge difference to the lives of people living with cancer.”

The ranking method is based on standardised citation metrics developed by a group of Stanford University scientists led by John P.S. Ioannidis, who is with Stanford's departments of medicine, health research and policy, biomedical data science and statistics and the Meta Research Innovation Center.
