Breast cancer information for health professionals

Our Breast Service is a collaboration with clinical partners, who provide coordinated and comprehensive cancer care

The focus of our work is the assessment of breast cancer symptoms, and the diagnosis and management of breast cancer and pre-cancerous diseases. This care is supported by a multidisciplinary team. Our patients receive care from specialist Breast surgeons, Breast radiologists, Breast pathologists, Radiation oncologists, Medical oncologists, and Plastic surgeons - in association with specialist breast care nurse consultants, Psychologists, Social workers, and additional supportive care services. We are closely affiliated with the Familial Cancer Centre and the Breast/Ovarian Cancer Risk Management Clinics at Peter Mac and the Royal Melbourne Hospital. The Breast Service is actively involved in several research programs.

The Breast Service is a joint service between Peter Mac, the Royal Melbourne Hospital, and the Royal Women's Hospital.

  • RWH (Royal Women's Hospital) - Level 1, Women's Health Clinic 

Breast cancer referrals 

We accept General Practitioner and specialist referrals for this service. 

Referrals are triaged depending on priority. Emergency cases can come to the Emergency and Trauma Service at any time. 

Referrals should include the following: 

  • Relevant clinical history 
  • Copies of test results (the patient should be advised to bring breast imaging with them to their clinic appointment) 
  • The reason for referral 
  • The patient's details including address, date of birth and contact phone numbers 
  • Your provider number

The Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) 

To refer a breast cancer patient to the Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH), complete and fax your referral to Outpatients on (03) 9342 4234. You can use the following form or a template from your own system: 

The Royal Women's Hospital (RWH) 

Please complete and fax the Fast Fax Referral form to (03) 8345 3036.
