Health Hub leading to improved patient health outcomes

08 August 2024

Nine out of 10 patients and carers who use Health Hub would recommend it to others. They even say it has contributed to improving their overall health.

Health Hub, also called the Patient Portal, is an online portal that gives patients access to important information about their care at Peter Mac including appointment details and test results.

The portal, which can be accessed via the Health Hub app and website, was introduced in 2020 across Peter Mac, the Royal Melbourne Hospital and the Royal Women’s Hospital. It had already been in use at the Royal Children’s Hospital.

A survey earlier this year revealed that 97% of patients or carers who use the portal said the technology was either helpful or very helpful, while 90% of respondents would recommend Health Hub to other patients.

“The survey highlights the pivotal role that Health Hub is playing in patient experience, putting the patient at the centre of their care by providing access to their own healthcare information,” Peter Mac’s EMR Optimisation Director, Steph Chau, said.

“It is fantastic to have the feedback that this technology is having a positive impact on patients and their health journey care at Peter Mac and across the Parkville precinct.”

The Patient Healthcare Technology Experience Survey received 2823 responses in just two weeks.

Other insights gathered from the survey include:

  • 70% believe that the use of technology has an impact and is improving their overall health
  • 86% believe that technology encourages them to more fully participate in their healthcare
  • 65+ year olds are showing the highest rates of technology satisfaction
  • 87% respondents say the hospitals technology offers convenience and efficiency,
  • 87% respondents say it is easy to use

“Now is the perfect time to encourage more patients to sign up to Health Hub,” Steph said.
