Peter Mac Bloods go back to back!
04 September 2024
The mighty Peter Mac Bloods football team have defended their title and gone back-to-back in the 2024 Medical Research Institute Cup!
The team defeated sides from WEHI and the St Vincent's Institute to secure this year’s prize at windy Western Oval in Parkville.
The Bloods were led to victory by Peter Mac researchers and coaches Patrick Crock, Hugh Chalmers and Will Tobin after taking out last year’s Cup.
“It was a huge thrill to go back to back!” Patrick said.
“The day is a great opportunity to meet researchers from different organisations as well as getting to know staff from Peter Mac in a different way.
“The team has been training together over the last couple and you could see the benefits of this hard work in the way we shared the ball and looked for each other,” he said.
Hugh said the Bloods are made up of researchers from different areas across Peter Mac and the game included modified rules to include Female, Intersex, Nonbinary and Trans or ‘FINTy’ players.
“We had players who still play on the weekend and others who had never played a game before in their life,” he said.
“But the connection and camaraderie that comes with playing is just amazing, and brings a new dimension to being a researcher at Peter Mac!”
“On behalf of the coaches, I want to say a big thank you to everyone who took part this year either as a player or a volunteer to help out on the day,” Hugh said.
