Peter Mac Professor Michael Hofman has been elected Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences (AAHMS) overnight for his outstanding contribution to cancer research.

Each year, the AAHMS Fellowship elects the best and brightest minds in Australia to join the Academy in recognition of their outstanding achievements and exceptional, ongoing contributions in the field of medical and health sciences.

Professor Hofman, a Nuclear Medicine Physician, leads the Prostate Cancer Theranostics and Imaging Centre of Excellence (ProsTIC) at Peter Mac and his ground-breaking research in PSMA PET and PSMA radioligand therapy has revolutionised prostate cancer imaging and treatment.

"Being elected to the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences is a profound honour and a testament to the collective efforts of our world-class team,” Professor Hofman said.

“Our pioneering work has illuminated new pathways in the precise detection and targeted treatment of prostate cancer.

“This accolade strengthens our commitment to advancing nuclear medicine, improving patient outcomes, and continuing our journey towards innovative healthcare solutions in Australia and beyond."

The AAHMS welcomed its 27 new Fellows in a ceremony in Brisbane last night. The Academy’s Interim President, Professor Ingrid Scheffer, said the Fellowships highlight those who are truly making a difference in health.

“This year’s cohort of new Fellows represents the diversity and excellence in modern science, and I look forward to seeing what our new Fellows achieve next in their already exceptional careers,” she said.
