Cancer Nursing in the Community Online Course

The Cancer Nursing in the Community online course is a resource providing healthcare professionals with relevant, evidence-based education to inform your knowledge and skills when caring for patients in the community with a cancer diagnosis.

Audience

This course is for all nurses working in the community or ambulatory setting, with applicability for inpatient setting, who may encounter and care for patients with a cancer diagnosis.

About this course

This online course provides educational and developmental resources for nurses to be able to learn foundational knowledge and technical clinical skill when caring for the most common referrals in the community, for the person with cancer. This course is designed to be delivered flexibly and compromises of the below four modules. You may choose to complete one module, or all modules, depending on your clinical needs.

  • Central Venous Access Devices
  • Cancer Surgery
  • Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy
  • Radiotherapy

Each module provides context to the importance of these topics in relation to the cancer patient. Nursing responsibilities such as assessment, planning, troubleshooting and escalating care are also explored. Each module contains interactive activities and clinical skill videos, allowing you opportunities to think critically and link theory to practice points. Upon completion of each individual module, you will receive a certificate of completion, counting towards continuous professional development (CPD).

The course is evidence-based and aligns with Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre clinical procedures. All principles can be applied to the assessment and management of the person with cancer in the community, however nurses should continue to follow their own health service policies and procedures when delivering care in the community.
