Professor Ricky Johnstone presented with Ramaciotti Medal
31 May 2024
Executive Director of Cancer Research, Professor Ricky Johnstone, was today presented with the prestigious Ramaciotti Medal for Excellence Award at a special ceremony at Peter Mac.
Announced in November last year, attendees at the official medal presentation included several members of the Peter Mac Executive and members of Professor Johnstone’s lab. The event also welcomed VIP’s from Perpetual including Emily Wellard-Baring, Senior Philanthropy and Non-Profit Services Manager, who presented the medal.
Peter Mac Chief Executive Jason Payne hosted the event and congratulated Professor Johnstone on his well-deserved recognition.
“Peter Mac has been fortunate to have Professor Ricky Johnstone leading our people for more than 20 years, all the while advancing his world-leading cancer research program,” he said.
“We are very grateful for all that he does for Peter Mac and for the global cancer community more broadly.”
The Ramaciotti Medal is an annual award to honour an individual who has made an outstanding discovery in clinical or experimental biomedical research that has had an important impact on biomedical science, clinical science, or the way in which healthcare is delivered.
The approach to cancer treatments and discoveries has adapted over the years in part due to Professor Johnstone’s key discoveries in cancer epigenetics, transcription and immunology.
“I am truly honoured to be recognised as the Ramaciotti Medal for Excellence recipient in 2023,” Professor Johnstone said.
“While this award is for the work performed in my own lab, I am even more proud of the collective efforts at Peter Mac to enhance the lives of cancer patients across the globe through research-driven care.”
Congratulations to Professor Johnstone on this remarkable achievement.
