Top 20: Peter Mac named global leader in cancer care
18 September 2024
Peter Mac is the only Australian centre to make the top 20 of Newsweek’s list of the World’s Best Specialized Hospitals 2025 in the oncology section.
Peter Mac is ranked number 16, with the next Australian entry – Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital - coming in at 123 (out of a total of 300 centres ranked worldwide).
Chief Executive Professor Jason Payne said the ranking reflects the outstanding work he sees across the centre every day and the "unwavering commitment to improving outcomes for every patient”.
“Peter Mac’s place in the world’s top 20 oncology centres for the third-year running is a testament to our brilliant staff who are pushing the boundaries of cancer care, research, and innovation,” Professor Payne said following the release of the list on Wednesday.
“This global recognition reflects our mission to lead the way in the fight against cancer, working in partnership with other leading centres across the world on breakthrough research that has the potential to change the future of oncology.
Peter Mac is proud to have formal working relationships with many centres in the top 20, including MD Anderson Cancer Center in Texas, which holds top billing on the list, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, and Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto.
The Newsweek list, now in its fifth year, identifies the top hospitals across 12 medical specialties.
The rankings are based on a global survey involving tens of thousands of medical professionals, who recommend hospitals in their areas of expertise.
Additionally, the rankings take into account factors like patient outcomes and accreditation data, ensuring that only the top institutions are recognized.
