Radiation Oncologist

Biography

Dr Kathy Pope is a Radiation Oncologist working at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre since 2010, who treats skin cancer and melanoma predominantly. She also has a strong interest in palliative radiotherapy, having completed a fellowship in the Palliative Radiation Oncology Program at Princess Margaret Hospital, Canada. Prior to this, Kathy worked at The Alfred Hospital, Peter Mac in Melbourne, and Royal Prince Alfred in Sydney. Kathy is involved in various research activities, and especially enjoys her advocacy roles as Chair of the Targeting Cancer Management Committee and Executive Committee Member of the ANZ Palliative Radiation Oncology Group (both part of the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Radiologists).

Kathy has previously been awarded a Western and Central Melbourne Integrated Cancer Service (WCMICS) grant for a “Palliative Radiotherapy Rapid Access Clinic (PRRAC) – Pilot project to assess clinic implementation and patient outcomes”. Her other clinical and research interests include Patient reported outcomes, Clinical guidelines development, Communication skills development; and Mental Health & Wellbeing (patients, self and colleagues). Kathy is passionate about Radiation Oncology and enjoys educating junior staff and colleagues, including GPs, at regular information sessions, about the role of radiation therapy, an often unfamiliar area of medicine.
