Dr Joshua Casan

Consultant Haematologist

Biography

Dr Casan is a clinical haematologist, haematopathologist and a molecular biologist based at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and the Royal Melbourne Hospital. Dr Casan works primarily within the myeloproliferative neoplasm, classical haematology and acute leukaemia streams but he has broad interests including CLL and lymphoma. Josh is also the Genomics Innovation Fellow working within Molecular Haematology and the Wilson Centre for Blood Cancer Genomics.

Josh’s scientific research interests include RNA-targeting and CRISPR-based therapeutics for cancer and infectious diseases; mRNA engineering and drug development and medical nanotechnology. Josh is a member of the Trapani and Johnstone Laboratories at Peter Mac.

Dr Casan is also involved in clinical research and has been an investigator on over 50 clinical trials with a focus on novel drugs for blood cancers. Dr Casan was awarded an Emerging Researcher Fellowship by Monash Health and is an adjunct lecturer at Monash University. Josh is a member of the CLL working group of the Australasian Leukaemia and Lymphoma Group and sits on the data management committee of the Lymphoma and Related Diseases Registry. He was the winner of the Alison Street Prize in Haematology Research, the Alfred Hospital Advanced Trainee Research Prize, the Rosie Lew Postgraduate award from the Peter MacCallum Foundation, the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Dora Lush postgraduate scholarship and the Royal Australasian College of Physicians JJ Billings Scholarship. Josh’s research has been supported by funding from the NHMRC, the Contributing to Australian Scholarship and Science (CASS) Foundation and mRNA Victoria.
