He obtained his undergraduate medical degree from the University of Melbourne in 2009, followed by joint specialist training in haematology through the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia in 2018. Under the supervision of Professor Mark Dawson and Associate Professor Marian Burr, he identified key mechanisms of MHC class II repression in acute myeloid leukaemia and melanoma, which are targetable as a promising strategy to improve immunotherapy outcomes in these cancers.
Dr Kah Lok works in the Haematopathology Department at Peter Mac, where he has a special interest in the diagnostic evaluation and therapeutic monitoring of haematological malignancies by multiparametric flow cytometry. He also maintains an active clinical interest in chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) and other lymphoproliferative disorders, and is a member of the Australasian Leukaemia & Lymphoma Group (ALLG) CLL Scientific Working Party.
