Biography

Dr Keefe Chan is a Senior Research Officer in Associate Professor Shom Goel’s laboratory in the Cancer Biology and Therapeutics Program at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. Dr Chan is an experienced molecular and cellular biologist with PhD and postdoctoral training in understanding the cell signalling pathways that govern cancer cell migration and invasion. At Peter Mac, Dr Chan has led research on investigating cellular senescence, a type of cell growth arrest that occurs in response to many cancer therapies, with the goal of identifying approaches to harness it to treat breast and ovarian cancer (Zhu et al. eLife 2022; Chan et al., Cell Death Differ 2020; Zhu et al. Mech Ageing Dev 2020; Assay Drug Dev Tech 2016). The primary research techniques he uses include microscopy-based screens, gene expression analysis, CRISPR/Cas9 and RNAi, tissue culture, organoid and mouse models. Dr Chan has generated funding from the CASS Foundation, Peter Mac Foundation, and the United States Department of Defense. Dr Chan has peer reviewed for a number of journals and is a Review Editor for Frontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology and Frontiers in Oncology. He is also a Guest Editor for the Journal of Visualised Experiments. He currently supervise two PhD students and is a PhD student mentor.
