Dr Luke McLean
Biography
Dr Luke McLean is a Medical Oncologist and Clinician Scientist at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.
He graduated from Monash University with Honours and was awarded the prestigious Harry Hindlip Green Scholarship on completion of his studies. Luke completed his physician training at the Alfred Hospital, followed by oncology training at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and St Vincent’s Hospital. He also completed a fellowship at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in head and neck and skin cancers.
Luke is a member of the Head and Neck Translational Research Laboratory where he completed a PhD investigating immunotherapy resistance in cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma. He is the recipient of a 2022 National Health and Medical Research Council Post-graduate scholarship and received the Robert Kirby Peter Mac Foundation Post-graduate award to support his research. In 2025, Luke also received the James Best Senior Research Fellowship with the Department of Medicine, enabling him to expand his research.
Luke is a member of the Head and Neck and Skin Working Party for the Trans-Tasman Radiation Oncology Group and sits on the Department of Medicine Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship and eviQ Head and Neck Reference committees.
Luke is an active member of the head and neck/skin service where he sees patients with head and neck, thyroid and skin cancers. He has particular interest optimising immunotherapy for immunocompromised and solid organ transplant recipients with skin cancer.
