Biography

Professor Sivananthan (Siva) Sarasanandarajah, M.Sc PhD is a Senior Medical Physicist (Senior Scientist) at Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute and also holds Adjunct Associate Professor position with RMIT University, Australia and Mentor Professor position with Bharathiar University, India. Professor Siva has extensive clinical and academic experience in medical physics at various leading Cancer Institutes and Universities in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Sweden, Canada and Sri Lanka. He also holds a certified Clinician Scientist (Medical Physics) Registration with the Health & Care Professions Council in the United Kingdom. He is a Fellow of Australasian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine (ACPSEM). 

Recently, Siva has also worked as a Radiotherapy Medical Physics Expert at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in the United Nations in Vienna, Austria. He has initiated, led, managed and coordinated various radiotherapy projects and medical physics educational & training projects. He was responsible for establishing and harmonising radiotherapy and medical physics educational programs in Malta, Nepal, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam and the United Arab Emirates and was responsible for leading and coordinating medical physics educational & training projects involving 21 countries in the Asia, Pacific and Arabic regions. He was also responsible for the IAEA-WHO Radiotherapy dosimetry Audit, international code of practices, guidelines and coordinated research projects in medical physics.

Siva has obtained a PhD in medical physics from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand as a Canterbury Doctoral Scholar. His PhD research work led to a new invention, and he was named as a co-inventor of two international patents. This invention is currently being commercialized. Siva has authored and co-authored numerous research papers in international peer reviewed scientific journals & Conference proceedings. Siva is supervising master’s & PhD research students and collaborating with national and international universities & Institutes. He is also delivering lectures to radiation oncology registrars and medical radiation science students. He is an expert reviewer, examiner and committee member of several national and international organisations/Scientific Journals. Siva has been a recipient of several internationally competitive awards, scholarships and fellowships including the highly competitive ‘Australia’s Endeavour Executive Award for high achievement’ by the Australian Government.
