Biography

Trevor is an established Specialist Cancer Nurse, having worked predominantly in haematology oncology and autologous stem cell transplantation, as a Clinical Nurse Specialist and as a Practice Development Nurse. He completed a Master of Nursing minor thesis exploring how people with haematological cancers cope with febrile neutropenia. A Senior Clinical Nurse educator in the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre Academic Nursing Unit, with specialist training in health professional education, Trevor has considerable experience teaching nurses about cancer, ranging from novice nurses, to nurses making the transition to specialist cancer nursing on topics including cancer biology, cancer care emergencies and workplace training. Trevor Chairs the Advancing Nursing Practice Committee and has led a program of work in developing Peter Mac’s Nursing Professional Practice Model.

Trevor is a member of the Cancer Nurses Society of Australia, having served on the board as treasurer and is a member of the International Society of Nurses in Cancer Care Knowledge Development and Dissemination Committee. Previously Academic and Subject Coordinator for the Graduate Certificate in Nursing Practice (Cancer and Palliative Care) through Peter Mac’s Centre of Excellence partnership with the University of Melbourne, Trevor is now the Course Coordinator for the Graduate Certificate in Cancer Nursing and the Subject Coordinator for several subjects, having led a team of specialist cancer nurses to develop and launch the course. He has a keen interest in clinical practice development and advancing nursing practice and enjoys sharing his passion for the challenges and rewards of working in cancer nursing.
