Biography

As a medical student used to working in the clinical field, Van is passionate about translating cancer research into practical and effective treatments.

Van currently works as a Postdoctoral scientist in Peter Mac’s Cancer Immunology Program, with a focus on understanding the mechanisms underlying the combination treatment of anti-PD-1 antibody and radiation for patients with kidney cancer.

Van completed her PhD in Cancer Biology and Therapeutics at Monash University in 2023, under the supervision from Professor Alan Trounson and Professor Richard Boyd. While undertaking her PhD studies, Van developed a novel approach to treat Cutaneous T-cell Lymphoma using CAR T-cell therapy. Also, at Cartherics Pty Ltd - a biotechnology company formally linked to Monash University - Van had the opportunity to conduct research in a more vocational setting, gaining valuable experience in the commercialization and clinical translation of her work through a unique collaboration.

Beyond her research endeavours, Van actively engages in fundraising campaigns with a focus on supporting women living with ovarian cancer, by participating in various running events.
