Dr Maria Ftanou
Biography
Dr Maria Ftanou is the Director of Psychosocial Oncology at Peter Mac and a Senior Research Fellow at the School of Population and Global Health at The University of Melbourne. Dr Ftanou has over 20 years of clinical experience, primarily in the field of psychosocial oncology. She and her team provide evidence-based psychological interventions to people with cancer and their families across the cancer trajectory.
Dr Ftanou is interested in developing and implementing research that uses novel technologies and interventions aimed at improving the wellbeing and mental health outcomes for people with cancer and their families. She is committed to developing workforce capacity across the field to better address the psychosocial needs of people with cancer. Dr Ftanou has been the recipient of multiple competitive grants and published in national and international peer review journals.
