Ovarian cancer research paper acknowledged with Sambrook Prize for Research Excellence
04 December 2024
The 2024 Joseph F. Sambrook Prize for Research Excellence has been awarded to Dr Nikki Burdett and Dr Elizabeth Christie.
The prize is awarded annually to honour the great contribution of Professor Joe Sambrook in establishing and enhancing cancer research at Peter Mac, and recognises the Peter Mac researchers who have made the most important published discovery during the previous two calendar years.
Dr Burdett and Dr Christie have been acknowledged for their 2023 Nature Genetics paper titled ‘Multiomic analysis of homologous recombination-deficient end-stage high-grade serous ovarian cancer’.
Professor Mark Dawson, Acting Executive Director of Cancer Research, said the judges described the publication as beautifully detailed.
“It was evident that a huge amount of work went into the research and the translation of it into a well-written manuscript,” he said.
“The analysis was rigorous and impressive, with important and sobering conclusions.”
Professor Dawson noted that the award is incredibly special as it honours Professor Joe Sambrook, who was the first Director of Research at Peter Mac.
“Our sincerest thanks to the Gething-Sambrook Family Foundation who generously funded the award through the Peter Mac Foundation,” said Professor Dawson.
