The Peter Mac Awards were held last night, recognising contributions of individuals and teams who go above and beyond to make Peter Mac the extraordinary place that it is.

In a combined awards ceremony and Annual General Meeting, new Chief Executive Professor Jason Payne hosted alongside Board Chair Professor Maxine Morand AM, who reflected warmly on another successful year of excellence in cancer care and research.

Professor Payne remarked that, “the Peter Mac Awards are such an important event…because the awards are fundamentally inclusive. Anybody can nominate a Peter Mac colleague, and every Peter Mac staff member is eligible. It is exciting to see people from a huge range of work areas being acknowledged this afternoon.”

Members of the Executive team judged the Peter Mac Awards, with consumer volunteers Maree Norden, Victoria Sharp, and Kevin Boyce leading the Exceptional Patient Experience category judging panel.

A team and individual winner was selected for each strategic pillar category, with all winners delighted to collect their awards in person.

This year a new award was introduced; the inaugural Jacqueline Caval Award for excellence in Allied Health was awarded to Sunshine Campus Manager Rebecca Height, for her work developing an Advance Practice Radiation Therapy pilot program.

The Chief Executive’s Award was awarded to Aboriginal Hospital Liaison Officers Jay Hamann and Andrea Casey, for their exceptional dedication to improving experiences and outcomes for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients.

Two of Peter Mac's prestigious Research awards were also presented. The Sambrook Prize was awarded to Dr Katie Fennell, Dr Dane Vassiliadis and Professor Mark Dawson. Lavinia Tan took home the Peter Mac Medal.
