Associate Professor Safeera Hussainy
Biography
Safeera is the Senior Pharmacy Research Manager at Peter Mac, where she is responsible for leading the research strategy and building the capacity of the department. She is also an Adjunct Associate Professor at the Department of General Practice, Monash University and a Honorary Principal Fellow at the Sir Peter MacCallum Department of Oncology, University of Melbourne.
Safeera has worked in community and academic pharmacy sectors for nearly two decades – her practice and teaching experience has informed her program of research in the innovation, implementation, evaluation and scale-up of health services delivery in primary care, with a focus on expanding pharmacists’ scope of practice. She has expertise in mixed methods, qualitative and education innovation research, and experience in implementation research including knowledge translation and dissemination to effect policy and practice change.
Her current areas of research activity include women's health, sexual and reproductive health, deprescribing in palliative care and pharmacogenomics health professional education. Safeera is a Chief Investigator on the NHMRC SPHERE CRE (Monash University; women's health in primary care), MRFF ALLIANCE trial (Monash University; expanding pharmacists' scope of practice in family planning services) and MRFF PRECISION trial (University of Melbourne/Peter Mac; pharmacogenomics-led prescribing trial). She is also an AI on the Motivational Interviewing Training Platform developed for Peter Mac health professionals, and is leading a program of research on sexual health and well-being in cancer care.
