Biography

Ben is a Hepato Pancreatico Biliary (HPB) Surgeon at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and The Royal Melbourne Hospital. He was, until recently, the Director of the Upper GI Tumour Stream for The Royal Melbourne Hospital, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and Royal Women’s Hospital. He is the Director of Surgical Services at The Royal Melbourne Hospital and Honorary Clinical Professor at The University of Melbourne. He is the Chief Surgical Advisor to the Victorian Department of Health. He received a Humanitarian Overseas Service Medal for his deployment to Samoa following the 2009 Tsunami. Originally a medical graduate of Melbourne University, Ben trained at The Royal Melbourne Hospital and was awarded his fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2001. He then completed further specialist training in HPB surgery at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne and The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. He completed a Doctor of Medical Science at The University of Melbourne in 2013. As a published author, Ben has many cited research papers and is a sought-after speaker at local, national and international meetings.
