Biography

Dr Andrea Di Pietro is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Neeson lab, with a focus on the role of Tissue-Resident Memory T cells in melanoma.

He obtained his BSc and Master's degrees in Molecular and Cellular Medical Biotechnology from the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University (Milan, Italy) in 2008. He was awarded a scholarship in 2010 to undertake his PhD studies in Basic and Advanced Immunology at San Raffaele Scientific Institute, where he discovered the antiviral role of TRIM22 against human influenza viruses.

After his PhD, he obtained a postdoctoral position at Monash University, where he conducted research studies focused on the epigenetic regulation of B cells differentiation in response to acute or chronic infection. His research has led to high-impact first author scientific publications in Nature Immunology and Cell Reports. His discovery on how epigenetic alterations driven by chronic infection led to the generation of low-quality antibodies was awarded the American Association of Immunologist (AAI) Careers in Immunology Fellowship in 2018.

Before joining PeterMac, he worked as a Senior Research Officer at the biotech start-up iCamuno Biotherapeutics, leading a project to generate genetically engineered B cells from induced pluripotent stem cells to produce monoclonal antibodies for the treatment of infectious diseases, autoimmune disorders, and cancer.
