Associate Professor Laura Forrest
Biography
Associate Professor Laura Forrest is a Senior Research Fellow and Associate Genetic Counsellor in the Parkville Familial Cancer Centre, the conjoint clinical genetics department of the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and Royal Melbourne Hospital, Australia. She is a senior honorary fellow of the Sir Peter MacCallum Department of Oncology, The University of Melbourne, Australia.
Associate Professor Forrest holds a mid-career research fellowship from the Victorian Cancer Agency and leads the Psychosocial Cancer Genomics research team in the Parkville Familial Cancer Centre.
Associate Professor Forrest is leading the PersOnalising gEneTIc Counselling (POETIC) trial (ANZCTR registration no. ACTRN12621001582842). This hybrid effectiveness implementation randomised clinical trial is testing a patient screening tool to determine the impact on patient outcomes after genetic counselling.
Associate Professor Forrest's health services and implementation science research program also examines the psychosocial implications for young people living with an inherited cancer syndrome, evaluates new models of care facilitating genetic testing, and develops and tests novel interventions that aim to improve outcomes for patients receiving cancer genomic information.
